Fact or Fiction? Is IFRS really coming?

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Meeting Topic: Is IFRS really coming, or might the adoption of IFRS in the United States be delayed?

Indefinitely or just for a few years? Regardless, what should you be doing today to prepare for either outcome? We will focus on the distinct possibility that IFRS may not be mandated in the United States, and explore what implications US-based companies may still face. In particular, US-based companies with foreign subsidiaries will be subject to IFRS in their foreign locations, creating risk and complexity for the US parent’s financial reporting responsibilities. We will compare different strategies the US parent may adopt with regard to assisting its foreign subsidiaries, as well as how its processes and procedures may need to evolve. Finally, we will illustrate important differences between ASC 718 and IFRS 2.
